Set up paper types and choose them for each product

Watch: Adding a paper type and offering it on business cards (0:57)

Paper works in two steps. First you keep one list of the paper your shop stocks, under Paper Types. Then, on each product, you choose which of those papers customers may pick and what each one adds to the price. A paper only shows on your store for the products you’ve added it to. You need to be the store owner or a manager.

1. Make the list match your shelf

  1. In the admin menu, under Catalog, open Paper Types.
  2. Press Add Paper Type and fill in:
    • Label: the name customers see, such as 16pt Matte or 100lb Gloss Text.
    • Value / Key: filled in for you from the label. You can leave it.
    • Description: a few words for customers, such as Thick, smooth, no shine.
    • Default Add-on Price: what it usually adds. Use 0.00 for your standard paper.
  3. Press Save.

The pencil edits a paper, the switch turns it off so it can’t be added to more products, and the bin deletes it.

2. Choose the papers for a product

  1. Open Products and find the product.
  2. Press the page button on its row (next to the $ button). The Paper Types window opens.
  3. Assigned lists the papers this product offers now. Add from Catalog, below it, lists the rest of your list; press one to add it.
  4. Each assigned paper has a + add $ box: what that paper adds on this product. It starts at the paper’s default, and you can make it different here, for example more on 1,000 cards than on 250.
  5. Press the bin on a paper to stop offering it on this product.
  6. Press Save. The bottom of the window says how many papers customers will see.

On your store, the product page shows a Paper type choice with the cheapest paper first. On products sold in sets, such as 250 business cards, the extra is added once to the set. On products priced by the page or piece, such as flyers, it’s added to each one.

Good to know

  • Changing a paper’s default price on the Paper Types page doesn’t change products that already offer it. Change the price in that product’s Paper Types window.
  • Turning a paper off, or deleting it, doesn’t take it off products that already offer it either. Remove it from each product’s Paper Types window as well.
  • Retail items, sold as they are, have no paper, so their row has no page button.
