Point your own domain to your FlowPrinter store

Last updated

On the Pro plan your store can live at a domain you already own, like yourshop.com. It takes two changes in FlowPrinter and two records at the company where you bought the domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains/Squarespace, Network Solutions and so on). Plan on ten minutes of work and up to a day for the change to reach everyone.

1. Add the domain in FlowPrinter

  1. Sign in to your store and open Settings → Custom Domains. Only the store owner sees this page.
  2. Add the root domain, for example yourshop.com.
  3. Add the www version too, for example www.yourshop.com. Each one is added separately, so customers reach you whichever they type.

Both will show Pending DNS until the records below are in place.

2. Add two records at your domain provider

Sign in where you manage the domain and find its DNS settings (often called DNS, Manage DNS or Advanced DNS). Add these two records:

TypeName / HostValue / Points to
A@216.150.1.1
CNAMEwwwcname.vercel-dns.com
  • @ means the domain itself. Some providers want the field left blank or the full domain typed instead.
  • The www record is a CNAME, so it points to a name, not a number. A CNAME can’t hold an IP address, so don’t enter 216.150.1.1 there.
  • Leave TTL at the default, or pick the shortest option (such as 600 seconds or 1 hour) so mistakes clear quickly.
  • If FlowPrinter showed you a TXT record when you added the domain, add that one as well. It proves you own the domain.

3. Remove the records that point somewhere else

A domain can only point one place. Delete any other A records on @, and any other record on www, before you save. New domains often come with parked-page records like these, and an old website builder leaves its own behind. If your provider has forwarding or a website builder switched on for the domain, turn it off, or it will keep replacing your records.

Leave MX and TXT records alone. Those run your email, and changing the A and CNAME records above won’t affect it.

4. Check it in FlowPrinter

  1. Wait a few minutes, then go back to Settings → Custom Domains and press Check DNS on each domain.
  2. When both say Verified, choose the one you want customers to see and press Set primary. Links in your emails and on search engines will use it.
  3. Your secure (https) certificate is issued automatically once a domain verifies. There’s nothing to buy or install.

If it still says Pending DNS

  • Give it time. Most changes show up within an hour; some providers take up to 48 hours.
  • Check for leftovers. An extra A record on @, or a forwarding rule, is the most common cause.
  • Check the spelling. The CNAME value is cname.vercel-dns.com, with no http:// and nothing after it. Some providers add a trailing dot, which is fine.
  • Already using 76.76.21.21? That’s our hosting provider’s older address and it still works. You don’t need to change it.
  • Still stuck? Email hello@flowprinter.com with your domain name and a screenshot of your DNS records, and we’ll take a look.
